The Oct 25, every year, is celebrated as the start of Red Ribbon Week. The week commemorates and renews the spirit of avoiding and preventing the usage of alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence.
The history behind the celebration of this week dates back to 1985 when a drug enforcement officer named Enrique “Kiki” Camarena got abducted. He was then tortured and later shot down by a Mexican drug dealer.
After he got brutally killed, other fellows of Calexico, California came out in procession wearing red ribbons in the memory of the great service he was doing for the people of the locality.
We would recommend that this week you wear your red colored ribbons to show solidarity against drugs, violence, tobacco and alcohol and increase awareness among your fellow citizens.
